about kairi : past >> Thanks to (the now defunct) AnsemReport.com and the posters on the FFOnline Forums, I've been able to come up with a bit of Kairi's background and history. --- Kairi used to live in Hollow Bastion. This is confirmed by the "flashback" Sora sees of Kairi when she was small, when she is in the library. Also, Kairi says she is from Hollow Bastion if you talk to her in Traverse Town at the end of the game. Whether or not Kairi is an actual princess or a figurative princess used to be up for debate. She is the seventh Princess of Heart, but not all of the Princesses of Heart are actual princesses (Alice, for example, is not a princess). However, Ansem's Report #11 in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix cleared this up by stating that Kairi (the "special girl" mentioned in the report) was simply chosen at random. This rules out her being an actual princess (he doubts that she has "a power like that of the Princesses), or her having any relation to Ansem. Also up for debate was how Kairi left Hollow Bastion and travelled to Destiny Islands. This was also answered in Report 11, where Ansem states that Gummi Blocks enable travel to other worlds, and that he has chosen one special girl to send off "to the ocean of other worlds." This implies that Ansem chose Kairi and sent her off to Destiny Islands on a Gummi Ship in order to find the one holding the key. The reason that Kairi returned to Destiny Islands rather than Hollow Bastion at the end of the game was because she thought of Destiny Islands as her true home. It was where her heart was. However, Sora did not return to the Islands with her because he had unfinished business finding Riku and King Mickey, and because his heart resided with his new friends Donald and Goofy. One can assume that, once his quest and duties with Donald and Goofy are done, Sora will return to Destiny Islands to be with Kairi and Riku. |
